What is HTTP/HTTPS?

HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) is the protocol used to transfer data between a web browser and a server. HTTPS is the secure version, encrypting the data in transit using SSL/TLS certificates to protect it from interception. Google has treated HTTPS as a ranking signal since 2014, and browsers like Chrome display a ""Not Secure"" warning for HTTP sites, which damages user trust. For SMBs, ensuring your website runs on HTTPS is a non-negotiable baseline requirement. Most modern hosting providers and website builders include SSL certificates automatically, making the switch straightforward. Any site still running on HTTP should be migrated immediately.
