What is a favicon?

A favicon is the small icon that appears in the browser tab next to a website's page title, and in bookmarks. It is typically 16x16 or 32x32 pixels and represents the brand at a tiny scale. While a favicon is a minor design detail, it contributes to the overall professionalism and recognisability of a website. A site without a favicon displays a generic browser icon, which looks unfinished. For SMBs, setting a favicon is a simple one-time task that is easy to overlook during a website build but makes a visible difference in the polished presentation of your brand, particularly for users who keep multiple tabs open.
